UNAIR NEWS – Faculty of Humanities (FIB UNAIR) is one of the 15 faculties in UNAIR which is currently executing Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) programme. Just like any other faculties at UNAIR, FIB UNAIR has its fair share of challenges, difficulties, even hindrances upon implementing the programme.
The Dean of FIB UNAIR, Prof. Purnawan Basundoro, elaborated on the challenges faced by the faculty in its attempt to support the MBKM programme under the ministry. One of the many challenges is the credit conversion from courses taken during the MBKM programme, “A specific set of conversion standards has not been given in detail, hence we have to figure things out along the way.”
"The explanation from the ministry is not very detailed, so we ourselves have to study further what activities can actually be carried out in the context of MBKM," explained Prof. Purnawan, Friday afternoon (29/10).
Of course, continued Prof Purnawan, the lecturers were also quite confused about understanding the concept of MBKM. He gave the example of students who can take courses outside the study program, which can take up to 20 credits.
"This is a challenge for us, to be able to translate what a simple implementation of the MBKM program actually looks like," stressed the urban history lecturer.
FIB itself has held ongoing discussions in every meeting with the head of study program and lecturers so that this activity can run well. "In the end, we want all elements in the faculty to be able to carry out this activity well," he said.
Prof. Purnawan hopes that all FIB students can take part in this activity. According to him, if we refer to the grand design of this activity, the goal is for students to gain experiences across fields outside their study program.
"I hope that students understand the various jobs that are carried out outside of their science," he said.
At the end of Prof. Purnawan hopes that this activity can be carried out so that students get maximum experiences from this MBKM activity. "In the future, according to the Minister's predictions, many of these jobs will come out of the basic knowledge base, so students must be able to take or take part in all MBKM activities," he concluded.
